COURAGE: THE CATALIST THAT SPEED UP THE MOVE FOR SUCCESS.

Courage is defined as "a quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty without fear" and "acting according to your beliefs despite criticism". The word comes from the Latin root "cor" and later the French root "cour" meaning "heart".

So courage is a quality that comes from your heart. Remember this point – it means it’s always with you and no one can ever take it away.

Susan Jeffers wrote a very popular book called Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway. In the book she says “it takes courage to mold your life the way you want it to be. There are all sorts of real and imagined obstacles that get in the way. They need not deter you.”

But that’s exactly what we do – we let the obstacles deter us and we don’t go after our dreams. Some obstacles will be real (how will I pay the bills?) and some will be imagined (I’m afraid I’ll become a bag lady if I quit my job).

So if there are obstacles, how do we get past them?

Here are 4 things you can do to help move past the fear and succeed anyway:

1. Be yourself. Call it authenticity, finding your life purpose, or doing what you love to do. We spend most of our lives being what other people want us to be and doing what they want us to do. Dare to be yourself.

"It takes courage to do what you want. Other people have a lot of plans for you. Nobody wants you to do what you want to do." -Joseph Campbell

Being authentic or doing what you love to do stimulates excitement and gives you the courage to move forward. If you’ve lost touch with your dreams and you need some time to explore what you love to do, click here for help.

2. Have a clear vision of what you want. If you are transitioning from employee to entrepreneur, you need to have a clear vision of why you want to do this and the results you want to achieve. You need to imagine what your life will look like when you have achieved your dreams. You don’t need to save the world – you only need a clear vision that is meaningful for you. Meaningful enough to feel excitement and have the courage to move forward.

For example, a sister wanted to reclaim her life from a 2 hr/day commute and long work hours. She knew she could accomplish her work without going to the office every day so she submitted a proposal to work from home 1 or 2 days a week. Her boss refused so after careful consideration she decided to become a freelancer and work from home full-time with multiple clients, not just one employer. She envisioned a better work environment where she had enough time to take care of herself and her business.

“Courage is the power to let go of the familiar” – Raymond Lindquist

Ask yourself “why do I want to do this?” until you have a clear answer that feels exciting to you. Maybe you want to have enough time to watch your kids grow up. Or maybe you’re looking for work that is creative and fulfilling. Maybe you want a portable business so you can live in the mountains during the winter and ski every day.

It’s your life. How do you want to live it?

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.” – Ambrose Redmoon

3. Have a plan and take baby steps. This means take some small action every day toward your dreams. Action is powerful. It helps you build momentum. Even small actions add up over time. Every action adds self-confidence and courage. It won’t seem like much at the time, but over time you will get closer to making your dream a reality.

Often we become paralyzed because there is so much to do and we don't know where to start, or we don’t know how to do something, and then we don’t do anything. So you need a plan. You can make a formal business plan or just a long list of all the things that need to be done. There are tools to help you, one is a Mind Map.

Each day choose one item from your plan (or list) and take one action toward accomplishing that item. If it’s a big item break it into smaller pieces until you find at least 1 thing you can accomplish. You can do more than one thing, of course.

“Courage can’t see around corners, but goes around them anyway.” – Mignon McLaughlin

4. Find support. This means finding a small group of people who can help you succeed. Barbara Sher calls them Success Teams. Napoleon Hill calls them Masterminds, some people call them Dream Teams. Susan Jeffers calls it a Cheering Squad.

Whatever you want to call them, we all need a small group of people who will give us encouragement (courage), inspiration, motivation and accountability throughout the career change process. It could be your spouse, your friends, your sister, or strangers who have been down this path before.

Sometimes the people closest to you don’t want you to change and can’t offer support. Or they can’t offer support because they don’t understand the direction you’re going. But there are millions of people who have done this before – find a mentor, a coach or a mastermind team to help you.

“Courage is being scared to death . . . and saddling up anyway.” – John Wayne

In addition to the tips above, there are many books and CD’s available to give you inspiration and information when you’re making a major life change. Use as many resources as you need, follow the tips above, and keep taking action every day. You’ll get there.

The Story Of A Woodcutter

Once upon a time, a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant and he got it. The pay was really good and so was the work condition. For those reasons, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.
His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he supposed to work.
The first day, the woodcutter brought 18 trees.

“Congratulations,” the boss said. “Go on that way!”

Very motivated by the boss words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder, but he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees.
“I must be losing my strength”, the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.
“When was the last time you sharpened your axe?” the boss asked.
“Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees…”
Our lives are like that. We sometimes get so busy that we don’t take time to sharpen the “axe”.
This story first appeared on http://academictips.org/blogs/

And beyond that,  in today’s world, it seems that everyone is busier than ever, but less happy that ever.
Why is that? Could it be that we have forgotten how to stay “sharp”? There’s nothing wrong with activity and hard work. But we should not get so busy that we neglect the truly important things in life, like our personal life, taking time to get close to our Creator, giving more time for our family, taking time to read etc.
We all need time to relax, to think and meditate, to learn and grow. If we don’t take the time to sharpen the “axe”, we will become dull and lose our effectiveness.

Ecclesiastes 10:10 "If the iron be blunt, and he do not sharpened the edge, then must he put to more strength: but wisdom (skill) will bring success".

Motivation is to life what fuel is to a car. If it run dry top it here!

Assassinate The Assassin!

Here I would be ditching you some practical proven Best Ways to Beat Procrastination. "Procrastination is opportunity's assassin." Therefore, you must read this to know how to stop this secret assassin that has assassinated many economic,  political and spiritual giants! These powerful principles foster productivity and perseverance instead of passivity and procrastination.

1. Plan and Priorities Your Daily Schedules. Draw a practical timetable to guide you through your daily activities. Write CLEARLY what you intend to do at a particular time.  Clarity is the most important element of productivity. You should arrange your schedule in orders of their important so that if eventually you are not able to accomplish all, the less important we be postpone.

2. Concentrate. Focus on one thing at a time. Deal with distractions by letting telephone calls go into voicemail, hanging a "Do Not Disturb" sign outside your door etc.

3. Avoid Things That Make You Tired. The predominant reason why people put off tasks is that they are too tired. So get sufficient sleep and exercise and eat right. Most of all, pursue important task when energy levels are high; you'll accomplish them easily and quickly. That lead us to point

4. Break Important Task Into Segments: Break It Down. No matter what you're trying to accomplish, whether it's writing a book, climbing a mountain or painting a house, the key to achievement is your ability to break down the task into manageable pieces and knock them off one at one time. Focus on accomplishing what's right in front of you at this moment. Ignore what's off in the distance someplace. Substitute real-time positive thinking for negative future visualization.

5. Procrastinate By Working. When you find yourself procrastinating, allow yourself to procrastinate by engaging in another segment of work that you had earlier postponed.

6. You Got To Separate Work From Play. Woking makes you work more; playing makes you play more. As a person I like play. Oh! Yes I play a lot, in fact I also play on words. But when is time to work God has given me wisdom to strike a balance. I can boostfully say Benson Adima is a big time 'Hard-Worker', probably that was why I was able to won the 'Best Teacher Of The Year' in about three schools I had taught so far. When it comes to beat deadline you could count on me. There is something that pushes me to work, you may call it 'Motivation'.

7.  Think You Can. The more doubtful you are, the lesser your motivation. As a general rule, it's best to be your own number one fan.

8. Keep A Diary Of Your Daily Activities. And you're going to be amazed by the distractions, detours and downright wastes of time you engage in during the course of a day. All of these get in the way of achieving your goals. For many people, it's almost like they planned it that way, and maybe at some unconscious level they did. The great thing about keeping a time diary is that it brings all this out in the open. It forces you to see what you're actually doing—and what you're not doing.

Your Desire And God

Your Desire For Success...Moves God Into Action..!

My Dear.
I Got Up Early Thinking About This...

I felt so stirred to share it with you.
The Lord was wanting me to confirm to you that He has placed within you the desire to achieve and the ability to succeed...with His help. What you consider to be your limitations or weaknesses God considers to be His open door into your life...His magnificent hand reaching down to you...to lift you up into the realm of Success.

I love to see people succeed with their lives. And so does God, the Creator. As the artist treasures his painting, and the master craftsman the quality of the violin he created; so our Maker cherishes the dreams, the goals, the excellence of life and the happiness you and I are to enjoy.
I often ask myself, "Why do some accomplish so much while others seem to fail?" We often make the mistake of trivializing small things. We use the word little and the word small to denote things of unimportance. Things that are not valuable. God views it differently. God uses little things to accomplish great things (Micah 5:2).
There Are Some Important Facts You Should Remember About Small Things.
► Excellence In Small Things Births Great Promotion.
► Little Hinges Swing Big Doors.
► Tiny Changes Birth Remarkable Rewards.
I have seen continuous failure in the lives of many people in my life simply because they would not prioritize their day. Benson, Your Goals are the only exit you have from your Past. Yesterday Is In The Tomb, Tomorrow Is In The Womb—The Only Place You Will Ever Be Is Today.

God will never ask you to do something you cannot do. He will always ask you to do something you can do. Stop trying to do impossible things. When you do the possible, God does the impossible. Every Instruction from God is very achievable. An instruction may appear insignificant, but your obedience will produce incredible rewards. Revisit the small things. Is there a little Instruction you did not follow? Benson, What small things has God whispered for you to do? It is the key to life.

Little responsibilities are how God qualifies you for territorial ownership and position. To create a successful life it is essential that you discover the small things that birth great promotion. It is time for you to enjoy a successful life...God intended it for you. Declare that the happiest and most productive days of your life are beginning today!

Attitude De Determiner

Zig Ziglar "Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude".
When you change your attitude, you will change your world.
“You need to keep a good attitude". You need a check-up from the neck up. These are more than popular phrases; they reveal an invisible awareness of the importance of your mood birthed by your chosen focus.
Many people with wrong attitudes do not even realize they possess them. They use angry words, sarcasm or cynicism to create a desired response from others. They use their attitude to intimidate and rule over those under their authority.
Each of us often develops our attitudes from childhood, right or wrong. Understanding the impact of our attitude on ourselves and others, enables us to develop positive steps toward appropriate and responsible behaviour.
Your attitude is more powerful than your gifts and talents. Attitude is the powerful force that attracts others toward you or repels them away from you. Many gifted people never taste the rewards of their abilities and creativity because their attitude makes them undesirable to be near. Your attitude is the force that determines whether you multiply or decrease. Your attitude determines your access.
Attitude is the power tool God uses to help you avoid and overcome the negative circumstances in your life. Your attitude will affect your ability. That is why the Apostle Paul learned to be content and happy, regardless of the state or situation around him. His attitude of thanksgiving made the difference. - Philip 4:11.
To Billy Graham, "When wealth is lost, nothing is lost; when health is lost, something is lost; when character is lost, all is lost".
Your attitude will determine your Altitude.

How to Set Goals: 10 Steps to Stay Focused.

I always do this at the beginning of every year: Instructs my followers on goal setting/on how to conquer the New Year thru planning. On the eve of the new I ask a friend "What re your plans for the New Year"? The replied "What do you want me to be planing about?" “Our goals can only be reached through a vehicle of a plan, in which we must fervently believe, and upon which we must vigorously act. There is no other route to success.” — Stephen A. Brennan .

For most people, creating goals is easy! The execution and application is the struggle. As Diana Scharf Hunt says, “Goals are just dreams with a deadline!” Everyone has dreams, but successful people turn them into goals that they accomplish. Without sounding religious, the Bible says in Luke 14:28 "For which one of you, when he wants to build a tower, does not first sit down and calculate (plan) the cost, to see if he has enough to complete it?"  In order to ensure you reach the finish line with your goals achieved, here are 10 steps to help you move from dreamer to doer:

1. Utilize the SMART Goal Approach

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit. – Aristotle

SMART goals have been utilized for years, because they work. Make sure your goals are:

Specific:
A specific goal will usually answer the five Ws (What, Why, Who, Where, and Which). Writing specific objectives fleshes out your goal so you can easily identify what you want to accomplish.

Measurable:
If your goal isn’t measurable, there will be no way to know if you’re making progress. You need to address the question, “How will I know when this is accomplished?”

Attainable:
Your goal must be something that you can realistically attain. I would love to fly like a bird by jumping off a cliff with no parachute, but gravity would have the last word in that interaction. However, learning to jump off a cliff with a hang glider is more realistic.

Relevant:
If your goal doesn’t mean anything to you, then it isn’t worth pursuing. Tie your goals to your deeper values to give them more meaning. Make sure you are behind the goal 100% so you stay motivated to achieve it.

Time Bound:
You need to have a deadline. Otherwise it’s just a dream that never becomes reality. Putting down a deadline makes you more committed to bringing it to fruition.

2. Write your goals down and display them!

“I hear and I forget; I see and I remember; I write and I understand.” – Chinese Proverb

A large portion of your goal is already accomplished as soon as you write it down. A study showed that among people who wrote down their goals with actionable commitments that they put into weekly progress reports and shared with friends, 76% accomplished them. This is in comparison to a control group who were just asked to think about their goals. In this group, only 43% accomplished their objectives. Writing down your goals makes them real; they are tangible words on paper, not an ethereal dream in your mind.

3. Break big goals into smaller ones!

“How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time!”

It’s the same for big goals! Break them down into manageable weekly and daily actionable bites. If you don’t, you can sometimes lose motivation if the goal seems far away or too big to accomplish.

4. Make an action plan and follow it!

“If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” – Benjamin Franklin

The best gift you can give yourself is a well thought-out action plan. Take time to organize all of your smaller daily and weekly goals in one place so you can easily check your progress or send it to others to hold you accountable.

5. Do your goals as early in the day as possible!

“The sun has not caught me in bed in fifty years.” – Thomas Jefferson

If you study successful people, you will find that most of the time they do more before the sun rises than the rest of the world does in a day. Get your goals done first thing in the morning to feel like you’ve started your day right. That way, you will always find time to do them.

6. Tell others your goals to keep you accountable!

“Accountability breeds response-ability.” – Steven R. Covey

When you know someone is going to check your progress, it lights a fire under you to follow through. Find a good friend or mentor who will take on the role of motivator and occasional butt-kicker. You will come to value this service immensely when you see your efficiency and effectiveness improve.

7. Make sure your goals excite you!

“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” – Albert Einstein

Your goals should be a source of joy in your life. They should be one of the main reasons you get out of bed in the morning. If your goals don’t excite you, then you need to re-evaluate them.

8. Use positive language in your goals!

“The major reason for setting a goal is for what it makes of you to accomplish it. What it makes of you will always be the far greater value than what you get.” – Jim Rohn

Setting and accomplishing your goals changes you. You become a positive person who is more excited about life. Make sure your goals reflect this. Don’t say, “My goal is not to mess up today.” Instead your goal could say, “My goal is to excel today in my career by doing X, Y, and Z.” Do you see the language difference? No one can get passionate about going through the day trying to avoid something negative. Instead, turn it around so you spend your day chasing and catching success.

9. Set goals in multiple life areas!

“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” – Michelangelo

Don’t just reserve your goals for your career. You should challenge yourself to set fitness goals, finance goals, family goals, relationships goals, educational goals, spiritual goals, health goals, and adventure goals. Every area of your life that you value should have a goal to help you improve upon it.

10. Set performance vs. outcome goals!

“The ultimate reason for setting goals is to entice you to become the person it takes to achieve them.” – Jim Rohn

Many things are outside your control. For example, you may have an adventure goal to climb Mount Everest. You follow an action plan and train daily. You reach the moment when you are ready to ascend the mountain’s icy slopes with your team. Suddenly, a huge storm turns you back. The weather was out of your sphere of influence. You met all of your performance goals. Just because the outcome didn’t happen this time does not mean you failed. You were prepared. Life just happened and you weren’t able to climb the mountain – this time. However, regardless of the outcome, you became the person who could climb your mountain should life open the door. That’s the deeper endeavor. When you set your goals, don’t say, “My goal is to climb Mt. Everest by January 2017.” Instead, say, “My goal is to be completely prepared to climb Mt. Everest by January 2017, and to do all that is within my power to reach the top.” The first goal is only attainable if everything works in your favor. The second goal is completely attainable, as it depends solely on you.

“In the long run, men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, they had better aim at something high.” – Henry David Thoreau

So what are you aiming for? If your answer is nothing, then you probably won’t like what you get out of this life. Instead of simply drifting along reacting to what life brings you, take proactive steps to go out and create the future you want. While we can’t control everything that happens to us, we can control ourselves by following goals that bring out our passion for life.
