LIVING A HIGH DIMENSION OF LIFE.

On the first day of school, our professor introduced himself and challenged us to get to know someone we didn’t already know. I stood up to look around when a gentle hand touched my shoulder. I turned around to find a wrinkled, little old lady beaming up with a smile that lit up her entire being. She said, “Hi handsome. My name is Rose. I’m eighty-seven years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed and enthusiastically responded, “Of course you may!” and she gave me a giant squeeze.

“Why are you in college at such a young, innocent age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, and have a couple of kids…”

“No seriously,” I asked. I was curious what may have motivated her to be taking on this challenge at her age. “I always dreamed of having a college education and now I’m getting one!” she told me.

After class, we walked to the student union building and shared a chocolate milkshake. We became instant friends. Every day for the next three months, we would leave class together and talk nonstop. I was always mesmerized listening to this “time machine” as she shared her wisdom and experience with me.

Success Breath Monthly Seminar

Over the course of the year, Rose became a campus icon and she easily made friends wherever she went. She loved to dress up and she reveled in the attention bestowed upon her from the other students. She was living it up.

At the end of the semester, we invited Rose to speak at our football banquet. I’ll never forget what she taught us. She was introduced and stepped up to the podium.

As she began to deliver her prepared speech, she dropped her three-by-five cards on the floor. Frustrated and a little embarrassed she leaned into the microphone and simply said, “I’m sorry I’m so jittery. I gave up beer for Lent and this whiskey is killing me! I’ll never get my speech back in order so let me just tell you what I know.”

As we laughed she cleared her throat and began, “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing.

There are only four secrets to staying young, being happy, and achieving success.

You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.

We have so many people walking around who are dead and don’t even know it! There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up.

If you are nineteen years old and lie in bed for one full year and don’t do one productive thing, you will turn twenty years old. If I am eighty-seven years old and stay in bed for a year and never do anything I will turn eighty-eight. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t take any talent or ability. The idea is to grow up by always finding opportunities for change.

Have no regrets.

The elderly usually don’t have regrets for what we did, but rather for things we did not do. The only people who fear death are those with regrets.” She concluded her speech by courageously singing “The Rose.” She challenged each of us to study the lyrics and live them out in our daily lives.

At the year’s end, Rose finished the college degree she had begun all those years ago. One week after graduation Rose died peacefully in her sleep. Over two thousand college students attended her funeral in tribute to the wonderful woman who taught by example that it’s never too late to be all you can possibly be.

Remember, growing older is mandatory. Growing up is Optional.

We make a living by what we get, we live at a high dimension by what we give.

I recollected this story in the first-person narrative as though I was a colleague to Rose, but no, her story reminds me of the Power of dream and vision.

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there, to serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson, or to help you figure out who you are or who you want to become. You never know who these people may be (possibly your roommate, neighbor, co-worker, long-lost friend, lover, or even a complete stranger) but when you lock eyes with them, you know at that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way.

And sometimes things happen to you that may seem horrible, painful, and unfair at first, but in reflection, you find that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, willpower, or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or using luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness, and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, whatever they may be, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere. It would be safe and comfortable, but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet who affect your life, and the success and downfalls you experience help to create who you become. Even bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones. Forgive them if someone hurts you, betrays you, or breaks your heart, for they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious when you open your heart. If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because in a way, they are teaching you to love and how to open your heart and eyes to things.

Make every day count!!! Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything that you possibly can for you may never be able to experience it again. Talk to people that you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free, and set your sights high. Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, it will be hard for others to believe in you. You can make of your life anything you wish. Create your own life then go out and live it with absolutely no regrets.

To be heroic is to be courageous enough to die for something; to be inspirational is to be crazy enough to live a little; TO LIVE A HIGH DIMENSION OF LIFE is one inspired by love and guided by knowledge and dreams. You might want to visit our website Here for more articles like this.

UNTOLD STORY OF BENSON ADIMA.

How Stubbornness Has Made Me A Pace Setter.

As a young person, the best way to describe me was 'stubborn as a mule'.

Little did I or my parents know that that stunt character was a necessary strength needed in the school of life.

At the age of 12 while in primary school, I enrolled myself to learn Carpentry and Furniture making with a well-known man in our village. My parents opposed my move. My grandfather scolded me severely, but I was adamant. Five years later I had  learnt and master Carpentry and Furniture making  so much that I was earning money from it to sponsor  my secondary education. That was when all the people who opposed me began to appreciate my decision. I made chairs, tables and all manner of stools in our house. One day my father saw me roofing a house in our village.  He was dazed.

The kind of stubbornness I am talking about motivates you to stick to your goals and advance in life.

To me, stubbornness is another name for self-confidence, resilient and determination, I’m stubborn; once I start something, I want to see how far I can go.

I have discovered that I am stubborn and I know it takes a special kind of stubbornness to succeed in life.

There was an incident that boosted my self-confidence as occasioned by stubbornness. Some years ago while still in the village, our people were in a war with another local government, people were killed, houses were burnt to ashes.  All young people above and below my age and   women fled to the next local government as refugees. But I stubbornly refused to flee.

My mother practically begged me, yet I was stunt and unyielding. When I could not be persuaded, my father said I should be left alone. That was how I stayed back and watched men go to and fro the war front sadly, one of our king's brothers was killed.

I became a Biblical David. Whenever my father went for town hall meetings to discuss latest developments and war strategies, I would go with him. Some men would ask my father 'who son is this'? The only weapon I had was catapult. I wanted to go to the war front but my father would not let me.

Take this quote from me: "When catapult becomes the weapon of war, men are building character" - Benson Adima

After that war my self-confidence increased as I was respected among my peers. I had first-hand information about wars, I came to appreciate what men do in times of war and how vulnerable women and children could be during wars.

WHEN STUBBORNNESS GOT ME IN DEEP WATERS.

In 2007 - 2008 I was already in Lagos serving as a house help somewhere close to where I currently reside. My curiosity took the best of me. I took the car key and drove one of the cars that belonged to my boss' daughter and returned it without anyone's knowledge.  I did this on two to three occasions, but one evil day I drove the Mercedes Benz belonging to my boss' son and broke the side mirror. When it was discovered, no amount of plea could save me. I was thrown out of the house by 2 am at night.

It was painful and regrettable but I learnt my lessons. The story did not end there. After that incident I told my elder (step) brother "I don't want to be a house boy again". Those words got him angry he almost slapped me, but I was stubborn enough to stay by my decision. At this time I was homeless, jobless, koboless, foodless and helpless.

Before I get emotional, here is the lesson: "stubborn people get themselves into a lot of trouble, but they also get things done."

When I failed to put my stubbornness to use, I lost the love of my life. I got entangled with this young pretty lady, prettier than all her age mates put together, but she happened to be my relative so it is wrong for us to have a relationship or marry each other. We immediately became the talk of the town. My parents were against that relationship, the lady's supposed father was vehemently against the relationship, and my friends were against it.  Several meetings were held to dissuade me from continuing in that love affair. But I and the lady, Maria were deeply in love. Being the first love, the connection was extremely charming. But I bowed to pressure, not because of my friends but because my mother threatened to divorce my father because of me if I did not leave Maria alone. That was how I quitted, yes I quitted but that decision led me into NERVOUS BREAK DOWN. I went into semi-madness or mental agony. For two months I was going to school but I was not learning, I put food in my month but I never eat. I lost my first love because I was not stubborn enough to hang on.

“Many are poor today because they are not stubborn enough to hang on to their goals. Many more are miserable because they don't have self-confidence to say “if I die I die". I urge you my friend, if you want your life to amount to anything significant, you must be stubborn enough to be ready to die pursuing what you believe than to live for Naysayers.” – Benson Adima

Few years ago I was teaching at a school in Ikeja Lagos, Nigeria, my salary was a token of $26 monthly. With that amount I enrolled in computer training, I enrolled for Daystar Leadership Academic, I wrote JAMB and borrowed money to pick a form for University of Lagos. When I visited one of my elder brothers and told him everything I was doing, he looked at me and said "why can't you finish one thing before you start another? Must you do everything at the same time when you know there is no money". His words fell on deaf ears because I had made up my mind and I was not going to listen to him.

Few years down the line, my stubbornness paid up, at the university I was using my computer knowledge to do assignments faster than my colleagues, I was doing internet research very brilliantly, and when they took us to compulsory computer class it was easy to navigate.  In my present secular job, my computer knowledge helps me a great deal. Imagine as a graduate from almighty Akoka, how it will look if I am given a computer to work with and I do not know how to operate it. What would become of me?

Listen to this, "……..Of all the skills required for business and career progression and building wealth, personal development is the most important."- Benson Adima

I understand and benefitted from personal development, that is why I centre my crusade on the need for young people to develop themselves.

If you will ever succeed and be happy in your life, you must be ready to go against popular opinion in most cases. Because experienced people will tell you why a thing cannot be done, inexperienced people will fear for you, antagonists will look forward to seeing you fail. You must have some guts to accept whatever the outcome may be. And whatever is the outcome, never ever blame yourself. Accept success as stepping stone and welcome failure as a blessing in disguise.

More recently I displayed my resilient in another venture, I wanted to buy a car. One of the men I respected so much said "if you borrow money to buy a car, how do you pay your rent which you always borrow money to pay every year?"

Another distance friend said "if you buy Honda Accord the problems of the car will overwhelm you". He advised I had better save the money in the bank and go gather more money to buy a Toyota product.  After I bought the car another person said "ah, did you purposely go and buy Honda Accord V6?" In fact my elder brother whom we went to buy the car together was beginning to complain: "oh we could have waited and buy another car, this car is having a lot of things to fix" etc. I simply told him I will fix it.

Once you make a decision, stick to it. Never blame yourself and do not complaint. Always be on the lookout for way forward. Because if you can think of the way forward there will be a way forward. One of my lady friends already knows me for this, I always tell her, "When you are in the middle of any problem, always ask yourself 'what is the way forward?' Never you say why me, always say try me! "

From this paragraph, I learnt that if you want to succeed in life you must be ready to start the way you are, where you are and with  what you have.' It simply means you should be ready to start anyhow with God you will not end anyhow.

In summary

1. I was ready to start as a house boy and today I am living in a mini flat in the same community where I started as a house keeper, with an averagely good job.

2. I borrowed money to get the form for university education, today I am a proud graduate of one of the most coveted universities in Nigeria.

3. I was willing to start writing my first book right on a staircase where I was living as a house at some point of my journey, today I am an Author and one of the most coveted Motivational speakers in Nigeria.

4. I was slapped and thrown out of a house because I broke a car side mirror, today I have bought my first car and in few years from now I will boldly say I started with Honda Accord V6, but here is my garage. Someday I will have my own private jet.

5. I started by giving  my life to Christ, today I talk to God as friend communes with friend and I speak in tongue like no man business and I am one of the most admired teachers of His word.

Finally, my story has layers and is unfolding, though I started public speaking by telling other people's story, today my story and personal life have become an inspirational compass to many young people across the globe.

I make bold to say to you today, that if you do not give up on yourself, someday men will surely greet you "Congratulations" during your convocation or coronation.

Yet, a little stubbornness in the face of committed decision coupled with relentless tenacity and unwavering sagacity will make you an enviable personality.

Remember, the only person you are fighting is yourself. If you continue in your stubbornness to engage in new endeavours, in the long run, the world will stand up in you and for you.

Till I come your way again, Benson Adima remains you’re in- house Motivational Speaker & Author.

Understanding Your 4Ws: (Who, What, Where and When)

WHO are you? (Find Yourself)

One of the greatest things a man can do in his lifetime is to know his purpose in life and fulfilling it.

Find who you are by;

1. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses.

2. Know your passion, know what you are good at doing.

3. Understand and accept your environment.

4. Assess your relationships how they can help you.

5. Know your temperament (your nature and how it affects your behavior).

6. Know your qualities, the good and the bad.

7. What are the things you enjoy doing and be sure you can be consistent with doing them.

8. Understand your background and the chances you have and what you can change to position yourself for greatness.

HAT do you Have? (Talent vs Skill)

Talent: You have the unique ability that God has given you that sets you apart from the majority of people. This could be General intelligence, Creativity, Artistic abilities, Sporting abilities, etc.

You do not need to put in too much efforts to excel in areas that you have talent but working hard at improving these talents will further give you that cutting edge above the others.

Skills on the other hand is the ability to do something well with expertise. Skills are capabilities that can be learnt and developed. If you want to be good at anything, all you have to do is develop an interest in it and work very hard at improving yourself on that particular thing.

Identify your talents by;

1. Assessing yourself (what you enjoy doing/ or see yourself doing very well with little or no effort)

2. Try different things.

3. Know your best qualities and how it relates to what you can do and be the best at it.

What you lack in talent, you can develop as a skill. You really do not have an excuse not to be able to make your dreams come true. How much work are you willing to put into making it happen?

WHERE are you going?

Knowing who you are and what you have is good but knowing where you are going is great. What you want to achieve and how to go about it is one of the biggest challenges we face as humans and that concept can be challenging to understand. Make a decision today and be affirmative about it. Focus your energy on your goals.

How can you achieve your goals?

1. Write your goals down, divide it into Career or personal development, health, spiritual, financial, etc.)

2. As often as you can, read them out loud to yourself.

3. Know what you need to do to be able to achieve your goals.

4. Track your performance be consistent.

5. Aim high but start low.

6. Celebrate your little wins.

WHEN will you get there?

Setting a goal is quite easy but achieving it is one of the biggest tests we face as humans. Have a plan and fix a time to it. Fixing your attention to your final destination will give you so much power and motivation. That is the fuel you need.

What you need to understand about your when are:

1. You are not late; you can start today.

2. You can have plans to achieve your goals in two years for example, you may not achieve it in two years, it doesn't mean you should stop, keep pushing. In fact, sometimes you might ended up achieving your goals earlier than the set time.

3. You will encounter challenges and setbacks, learn from the mistakes but do not stop.

4. Have a plan and follow through on the plan, along the line, you will learn lessons that will help you redirect your focus or change some principles, ensure that the goal remains the same or redefine in some better ways.

5. Do not forget that you need God. Let God guide you through the process. The confidence you can get from this is unmeasurable.

The bonus W that forces you to make a decision on the other Ws is your WHY.

Rather than explain what your WHY is, I will leave you to ponder on this quote by Mark Twain. “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out WHY.”

WHY DO YOU WANT TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS?

Moses Adeniji composed this at the event of Success Breath Monthly Seminar, March 2021

HOW TO SEIZE THE YEAR 2021

HOW TO SEIZE THE YEAR 2021. 2020 is finally over and that means that 2021 is here, it’s time fora new year and a goal setting session, this article will show you how to set goals to set yourself up for a successful year ahead.

Before we go ahead, you want to take the time to take a look back on 2020 and see how far you came, where you are now, and the lessons you learned from 2020. Before you decide where you want to go, you want to know where you are first.

Write down and answer the following questions:

What changed in your life?

How did you change?

How are you different now than you were a year ago?

What were your results?

What were your goals and how far did you get in meeting them?

These are facts.

What were your wins?

What were your failures?

What did you love most about 2020?

What challenges did you face?

What needs to change?

What will you do to make sure the challenges you faced in 2020 will be better handled in 2021?

What is your strategy going to be?

What have you leave behind in 2020?

What will you continue to bring in 2021?

Evaluate Your Life

You want to take a look at the results you have in your life now. These are facts. This is neutral. Take a look at all the areas in your life and write down your results in each area.

Remember that honest awareness is the first step towards change.

Consider these areas you need to set goals in:

1.     Relationships/family

2.     Finances

3.     Career/Business

4.     Home/Environment

5.     Spiritual/Personal Development

6.     Health

7.     Fun and recreation

8.     Service and volunteer work

Now, let’s get down to setting a goal for 2021!

Before we get started, choose a word for the year of 2021.

It can be anything you want to direct your focus and goal in 2021. Examples are bold, courage, freedom, focus, inspire, thrive, balance, simplify.

What is your number 1 goal for 2021?

When you are setting goal for the year, it’s ideal to focus on one big main goal. Setting too many goals leads to overwhelm and a lack of focus which causes no goals to be met.

 Set Smart Goals

When setting a goal, you want to make sure your goal is SMART.

S – Specific

You don’t want to set vague goals. That’s not helpful and won’t guide you much. Make sure your goals are specific and actionable.

M – Measurable

You want to make sure you can measure and track your progress for your goal. You’ll also know when you have achieved your goal if it’s measurable. Provide a way to evaluate your goal.

A – Attainable

You want your goal to be possible. It should be challenging, but attainable within your scope of power and given the time frame of one year.

R – Relevant

Your goal should make sense. It should be a goal that you want to achieve and will improve your life in some way.

T – Time bound

You want your goal to have a deadline. In this case, if you’re setting a one-year goal for the year of 2021, your deadline should be December 31, 2021 or January 1, 2021, give or take.

Include actionable steps in your goal. For example: By December 31, 2021, I want to save x amount of money by saving x amount of money a week or a month.

Articulate Your Why

What’s your why? Why did you set this goal?

Go deep. Keep asking yourself why. You want to have a deep, inner, strong reason. The stronger your why, the better.

This helps you find motivation and keeps you going when things get hard.

You want to connect to your goal both intellectually and emotionally.

You have to love your why. Love your reason for achieving your goal. It should get you excited.

Once you uncover your why, include it in your goal. “I want to achieve my goal because…”

Implementing Supportive Habits

Now, you want to implement supportive habits and incorporate useful behaviour to achieve your goal.

Write down and answer the following questions:

·         Who do you need to become to achieve your one year goal?

·         How do you need to show up?

·         What kind of thoughts, feelings, and mind-set should you have?

·         What needs to change?

·         What habits should you implement?

·         What routines should be created?

Make a list of habits, routines, and behaviours that need to be implemented for you to achieve your goal.

It’s incredibly important to set up habits because you want to rely on habits instead of motivation. Setting a goal is just the first step to reaching your goal. Habits are what lead you to reaching your goal.

Take a moment to channel and embody your future self. Journal about your future self and get to know them. What do they do? What are they like?

Make a list of things you need to take out. Bad habits, bad behaviours, people, etc. This should include internal and external things.

Make a list of things you want to bring into your life (more). Again, this should include both internal and external things.

Break Up Your Goals

You’re going to take your big one year goal and break it up.

First you’re going to break your goal into quarter goals. So for every 90 days, choose a goal or outcome that you want to focus on.

Next you’re going to break up your quarter goals into mini monthly goals.

Breaking up your goals into smaller goals will actually help you with not only reaching goals, but setting them as well. Goal setting is an interactive skill. The more you set goals, the better at them you’ll get.

If you don’t know, set a goal to figure that out as your first monthly goal. Commit to decide. Do whatever you have to do. Research. Brainstorm. Ask yourself questions. Meditate or sleep on it. Figure it out.

The farther you go out into the year, the less specific you’ll likely get. That’s okay. So do your best to take a guess. Estimate what you’d like your goal to be and focus to be on.

Circumstances change. Life is unpredictable. You want to be adaptable and flexible to handle what life throws at you during the year.

Create a Massive Action List

Make a massive action list. Be very specific. Write every single thing you’d like to get done. This should be a huge list with 50-100 action steps. Remember if you don’t know, do some research and figure it out. Write as many as you can.

Now you’re going to organize your action steps in chronological order. You’re going to create your master plan. This is what turns your goal into an action plan.

It may be tedious, but it is so worth it. After doing this, all you need to do is show up. Then you’re going to add these actions to your calendar.

You want to be taking some sort of action every single day that will move you towards your goal. Just a few minutes a day is better than zero minutes a day. You want to be moving forward and taking baby steps at least.

For the first month, you’re going to set up your weekly to-dos for the month of January. Going forward, you’re going to want to fill your calendar in 1 to 2-week increments.

Once you’ve filled your calendar with at least the immediate action steps for the first month of January or the first two weeks, you’re ready for the next step which is to do the work and just start.

 Tracking Your Goal

Spend 30 minutes at the end of every week to reflect and track your weekly progress for your annual goal. Analyse your efforts. Are you on track? What’s working? What needs to change?

Don’t be afraid to make changes. You want to be flexible and adaptable. 2020 definitely showed us this. Set up a system to measure and track your goals and habits whether it’s an app or journal. Have it ready before starting.

 Going Forward

Keep in mind that your goals will have problems. You should expect obstacles. Expect to experience failures. To limit further failure and backtrack, plan for obstacles ahead of time. When you plan for potential problems, you plan for solutions. Make a list of potential problems and obstacles. Follow each with a strategy to overcome and solve your problems.

Practice awareness of your weakness and threats. For example, if you already know you struggle with waking up early, prepare for this in advance. Have a strategy in place to avoid this problem.

When faced with problems and obstacles, avoid getting stuck. Learn from them. Be solution oriented. Fail forward. When you’re failing, you’re putting yourself out there.

“Everything is figureoutable.” — Marie Forleo

Tips for reaching your goal in 2021:

·         Keep your goal in front of you

·         Prioritize your goal every day

·         Take action every day

·         Stay in the right mind-set – be solution oriented

·         Weekly planning and reviews

·         Measure your progress

·         Stay focused

·         Keep going when things get hard

If you haven’t already, start working towards your goal NOW! There’s no reason to wait any further. Give yourself a head start by starting with very slight and minor changes. Start embarrassingly small.

When you start with sudden, big changes, you’re less likely to keep it up. So use the time you have now as a sort of mini practice session.

Congratulations on taking the first steps toward reaching your goal! Most people don’t even write down their big goals let alone take steps necessary to reach them.

Goal setting is the way to actively create your future and design your ideal life. The only way to predict your future is to create it.

Here’s to jump start your 2021 and end it with a bang or make it your best year ever!

Get Rich or Die Trying

Get Rich or Die Trying. It was Bill Gate who wrote, “If you are born poor it’s not your mistake, but if you die poor it’s your mistake.” So to be born poor is not a sin but to die poor is a sign of lack of knowledge.

Dr Olumide Emmanuel will always say, “Everybody can be rich but not everybody will be rich. Everybody can be wealthy but not everybody will be wealthy. The simple reason is that not everybody will know what they need to know, not everybody will do what they need to do. The problem is always ignorance, laziness and lack of action.”

Fela Durotoye admonished, “It is because you are managing, that’s why your situation has not changed”.

This title is similar to 50 Cent’s debut album “Get Rich or Die Tryin”. 50 Cent’s literally couldn’t make an album like it again. The anticipation for Get Rich’s release was so high that Interscope Records rushed it out five days before its scheduled Feb. 11 date 2003.

Prior to the release of his mix-tape, Curtis Jackson, also known as 50 Cent was an aspiring rapper who grew up on the streets trying to earn a living by hustling and selling drugs. Eventually he was thrown into prison where he used that time to write lyrics for his upcoming albums which eventually was picked up by Eminem.

An interesting fact to note is that while 50 Cent was building his music career early on, he was involved in a drug battle which resulted into him getting shot 9 times throughout his body in Queens, New York on May 24th, 2000.

Most people would give up at this point and hold back in pursuing their dreams but 50 Cent didn’t. Instead he survived, fought on and used his experience to push himself forward to becoming one of the most influential rappers in the music industry.

I read a lot of stories about people who were faced with death and they usually embark on a spiritual journey whereby they reach enlightenment and realise their true purpose. I guess 50 Cent went through that process and used it as his driving force towards anything he focused on.

When you go through a traumatic experience such as being shot at gun point and surviving it, I guess the usual fears we all have dissipates because nothing can really match that experience.

Now you don’t have to get shot 9 times to get rich or become successful so instead, I’ll share with you the secrets of self-made millionaire and billionaires.

Because the secrets of men are in their stories, until you know what they know you wouldn’t get what they get. I want to believe that those who are listening to me are either millionaire or potential millionaires.

But before I go further, listen to this, it is better to be impetuous than cautious in pursuit of fortune because fortune is like a stubborn he goat, and if you wish to dominate him you must beat him and batter him. It is clear that he will let himself be won by men who are impetuous rather than by those who tread cautiously.

The Law of Cause and Effect

AfrAsia Bank Wealth report of 2018 cited that 71,000 millionaires are living in Nigeria, 320 centi-millionaires, and 25 billionaires. The total private wealth held in Africa is expected to increase by 34 percent over the next ten years, with the possibility of reaching USD 3.1 Trillion by 2027. When we think of wealthy individuals in Nigeria some names come to mind such as, Femi Otedola, Mike Adenuga, Aliko Dangote, Tony Elumelu, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Igho Sanomi, Oba Otudeko, and Folorunsho Alakija etc.

Have you ever paused to think about their habits? You see, successful people all do similar things. As Brian Tracy would say, “Success leaves tracks.” The wealth you desire will not fall on your laps like ripe mango fruits, there are certain practical requirements and responsibilities you have to meet and carry out before you can have it.

01. Dream Big Dreams: To succeed in life your dream must be big enough to make you rich at the end of the day. It should be convincing enough to push you off the bed by 5 am. It has to be simple enough for a 6 years old child to recite it, comprehensive enough to be documented and very plain, such that anybody who sees it can run with it.

Your dream should be sparkling enough to take your breath away, and if your dream doesn’t scare you, it’s probably not big enough. Your dream should be big enough so that when you announce it, people will say you are crazy. Your dreams should be big enough to involve God in the fulfilment of it.

02. Believe in yourself: The abode of riches isn’t easy, so if you want to be rich, you’ve got to believe in yourself. The world’s most wealthy people have unshakeable confidence in themselves and in their vision. Without it, they would have given up too easily after a few obstacles got in their way.

How is your confidence? Do you believe you can be rich? I’ll tell you something in case nobody told you before: You can do whatever you want in life, you’ve just to first believe it, and then work like mad to get it.

03. Make a committed decision: (Reach a Point of no Return). Decision not condition will make you rich. Burn that bridge and damn the plan B mentality! The story of burning the ships is as relevant as ever. In 1519, Hernán Cortés arrived in the New World with six hundred men and, upon arrival on the shores of (what is today) Mexico he gave the order to his men to burn the ships. This sent a clear message to his men: There is no turning back. Two years later, he succeeded in his conquest of the Aztec empire.

What Cortés did was force himself and his men to either succeed or die. Retreat was not an option. I believe that to truly achieve the level of success we each desire, there are times when we need to ‘burn the ships.’

04. Develop a Clear Sense of Direction: You need to be intentionally-goal oriented. You’ve got to know what you want in every area of your life, and decide how much exactly it is that you want; write it down and make a plan to get it. Determine the price you have to pay to get it and resolve to pay that price, because you have to pay the price ahead. Brian Tracy is the master in this area, he will ask his audience to remove a sheet of paper, write 10 goals inside it and choose one major goal out of them and work on it immediately.

05. Be Hungry, Be Obsessed with Strategies and Be Resourceful: Hunger is the greatest motivator of action, and action is the key to success. When you are dying of hunger, you will do whatever it takes to get yourself a meal. And if you don’t succeed, you will die trying. If we truly want to be great, to do great things, and to find success in life however it might look to each of us, we need to stop snacking and let those hunger pains push us a little harder.

And there is not a more important trait to possess than resourcefulness in the pursuit of riches in life. With a resourceful mind-set we’re driven to find a way. There is no waiting. We’ll always try to find a way, always!

06. Dedicate Yourself to Lifelong Learning (personal development): Rich people never stop learning. They believe that learning never ends. This doesn’t mean they’re going to school to get new degrees, although they may. Even without formal education, they’re constantly reading and learning from others around them, perhaps from books, trade magazines or conferences, or from others who are ahead of where they want to be. To become a self-made millionaire you are going to fail and fail again but you must not give up the enthusiasm. And to become an unshakable optimist you must be committed to painful detour of personal development and self-growth.

07. Develop a Workaholic Mentality: Have you ever met someone who is super-rich and lazy? Neither have I. The truth is that the road to riches is paved with hard work. If you want to achieve great wealth, you’ll need to wake up early, stay up late and put in your time. Success doesn’t just come to those who want it. You’ve got to pay your dues. Aliko Dangote once said that in the first 13 years of his business he never took a vacation.

08. Get Around the Right People: If you want to be wealthy, hang out with wealthy people. If you want to be funny, hang out with funny people. And if you want to be poor, hang out with poor people.

The truth is that people naturally mimic the behaviours of those around them. Mind-set is contagious. So if you want to be a very rich person in life, spend time with others who are already rich. Don’t know anyone who is rich? That’s okay. You can read books written by them or about them. Listen to their radio interviews or watch them on TV. Attitude and success is contagious, so catch it by hanging around some of the great people.

Earlier this year, I planned to attach myself to one of the foremost motivational speakers in Nigeria and today I’m happy to say Fela Durotoye is my mentor.

9. Develop the Qualities of Courage and Persistence: Rich people persist until they achieve riches. Obstacles to success are normal and should be expected. However, you can decide when you are committed to success that you’re going to persist no matter what obstacles arise.

Go around them, go over them, or push through them, but persist no matter what happens. That is what successful people do, and so should you if you want to be successful. You must be prepared to climb from peak to peak.

10. The Quality of Self-discipline: The quality of self-discipline is a habit, a practice, a philosophy and a way of living.  All successful men and women are highly disciplined in the work they do.  All poor men and women are undisciplined and unable to control their behaviours and appetites.

And when you develop the same high personal discipline possessed by the most goal-oriented successful people in our society, you will very soon become successful and rich.

In summary, none of the secret of riches will work unless you do. As Vince Lombardi would say, “The only place success comes before work is in the dictionary.” Be motivated to build your wealth.
